The world war «in pieces» is changing its form. The different war fronts are increasingly tending to become articulated into a single field of global conflict, while rearmament, the militarization of societies, and the risk of an irreversible expansion of the war are increasing.
War does not simply happen: war is organized. Armies, alliances, war economies, the production and trade of weapons, propaganda, the construction of the enemy, and the habituation of populations to the possibility of war are all organized.
For this reason, it is not enough to be against war. We must organize peace.
We, participants in the Assembly preparing the international meeting in Rimini, propose to scientific societies, universities, professional and cultural associations, movements, trade unions, and all those who reject war as a destiny, that we build together an organized field for peace.
The sciences, and in particular those concerned with psychic life, groups, institutions, and societies, cannot consider themselves unrelated to what is happening. War destroys bodies, territories, and social bonds; it produces fear, hatred, dehumanization, and generations marked by violence.
It is necessary to build links among the many forces currently working for peace in a dispersed manner, to create permanent spaces for international encounter and cooperation, and to restore political strength to the word peace.
Faced with the organization of war, let us organize peace.
